Benjamin Kwasi Burrell
Training
Benjamin Kwasi Burrell trained in Jazz Piano at Trinity College of Music, and holds a Masters in Scoring for Film, Television and Video Games from Berklee.
He has performed, composed and arranged for bands and artists including Zara McFarlane, Cape Verdean singer Carmen Souza, Jazz Jamaica, the Jazz Jamaica All Stars Big Band, New Civilization Orchestra and Tomorrow’s Warriors Jazz Orchestra. He has scored several independent short films.
Theatre
For the National: as composer; Grenfell: in the words of survivors, The Motive and the Cue, Blues for an Alabama Sky; and as musical director, Small Island and Dick Whittington.
In London’s West End: as assistant musical director; Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical and Memphis
Work as composer includes: Best of Enemies at the Young Vic; A Taste of Honey on UK tour and at the Trafalgar Studios.
Work as assistant musical director includes: One Love at Birmingham Rep; Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill at Wyndham’s; and A Clockwork Orange at Theatre Royal Stratford East.
Benjamin Kwasi Burrell was also the musical supervisor for the new Mandela musical at the Young Vic.
